This week we had the opportunity to explore GOOGLE+ communities. Google+ communities allows teachers to expand their knowledge, gain advice, perspective and support! It allows teachers to ability to have access to many different lesson plans, actives, or resources at their finger tips. GOOG+ can be used in the classroom to bridge the gap between old school learning and new school learning. With that being said, as I was exploring GOOGLE+ one community I feel in love with was, Iowa social studies teachers using technology. I especially like this community because it was a community of first year teacher to 10plus year teachers, it was also organized in a very easy manner. Such as, it had many different sub-sections that broke down introductions, and all the different subjects social studies are expected to teach. I also liked how it teachers helping teachers, and how it not just elementary teachers but middle school and high school teaches!
Us Music Videos is a website that any teacher can use. This particular us music video resource was made by Kevin Neal. Mr. Neal created numerous of very FUN and ENGAGING videos about history topics that many students may find dull or dry. Therefore, he along with another teacher deiced to spicy history up! It gives a quick over view to the main causes of the topic and effects of the topic. These fun videos can be used as fun hooks to grab students and having them want to learn HISTORY. The next fun resource I found within this community was C-span Student CAM! StudentCam is C-SPAN's annual national video documentary competition that encourages students to think critically about issues that affect our communities and our nation. This year students in grades 6-12 are asked to a 5-7 min viedoon a topic related to the new 2017 competition theme, "Your Message To Washington: What is the most urgent issue for the new president and Congress to address in 2017?"
With cash prizes totaling 100.000 dollars and C-SPAN will also give awards and prizes to 150 student documentaries, and 53 teacher advisors.
